Trench Austria Expands Production Capacities at the Leonding Site

Major Investment to Double Production Capacity

Trench Austria GmbH, a subsidiary of the Trench Group, a globally leading manufacturers of high-voltage transmission components and systems, is investing massively in the expansion of its production capacities at the Leonding site (Upper Austria, near the city of Linz). With an investment of 16 million euros already made in 2024 and a further planned investment of 31 million euros, the company is consistently continuing its growth course.

These measures are a central component of a global growth and capacity expansion within the Trench Group, which is one of the world’s leading specialists in the field of energy transmission technology with a total of nine production sites. At Trench Austria, these investments will lead to a doubling of capacity at the Leonding site.

These investments will enable us to meet the increasing demand for innovative coil products and high-voltage solutions. In particular, the growing requirements in the area of high-voltage direct current transmission projects and the increasing demand for sustainable, air-cooled coils are driving growth.

Key customers include international companies such as Siemens Energy, Hitachi Energy and General Electric.

Expanding the Team and Developing Specialists

As part of its expansion strategy, the company plans to increase the number of employees in Leonding by 25% from the current 320 to around 400 by 2028. According to Schmid, the focus will be on training specialists. “Well-trained employees and ongoing investment in product development and our site in Leonding are important factors in meeting the specific requirements of global energy grids,” Schmid emphasizes.

With these measures, Trench Austria is underlining its role as an innovation leader and reliable partner for the energy transition. The expansion of production capacities is an important step towards mastering the challenges of the global energy industry and actively shaping the transition to sustainable energy solutions.

Especially in economically challenging times, investments and production expansions such as those of Trench Austria are an important sign.
On the one hand, that the Trench Group is not only holding its own in international competition, but is one of the leading companies and is expanding its capacities.
On the other hand, that jobs here in the local area are being secured – this shows that Upper Austria is a leading business, employment and innovation location and will continue to be very attractive for companies in the future.
